ABC podcast Expanse returns with chilling new season on Nannup Four disappearance

Reporter

The ABC’s award-winning podcast Expanse is returning with its most haunting investigation yet.

Expanse: The Nannup Four revisits the baffling disappearance of four people from a remote West Australian farmhouse, with the first episode available now and new episodes dropping each Tuesday on ABC listen.

Across six episodes, host Dominique Bayens uncovers inconsistencies in official accounts, revisits long ignored evidence and tracks down voices who have never spoken publicly. Until now.

In a case that has puzzled locals, police and Australia for nearly two decades, an isolated blue farmhouse on the outskirts of Nannup was left eerily silent in July 2007. Four residents vanished without a trace, leaving behind everyday belongings, a cryptic note on the door and a series of bizarre clues that only deepened the mystery.

At first, police and family believed the group would return. But as investigators dug further, a darker and stranger narrative began to take shape, one involving control, secrecy and an online doomsday cult that thrived in the shadows of the early internet.

Questions began to surface: did the Nannup Four retreat off grid? Were they living under new identities in Brazil, convinced they were escaping electromagnetic frequencies? Or did the story end in a cult inspired murder suicide pact?

Expanse: The Nannup Four pieces together the lives behind the headlines and asks how four ordinary people became entwined in an extraordinary mystery, one still without definitive answers.

This season of Expanse is streaming now on ABC listen and all major podcast platforms. The vodcast is also available on ABCiview.
