3ZZZ’s Radiothon fundraiser
Australia’s multilingual community radio station, 3ZZZ 92.3 FM, is running its annual Radiothon, raising money to replace its old transmitter and keep its multilingual broadcasts running.
3ZZZ creates opportunities for ethnic broadcasters and caters to wider communities with diverse languages as their mother tongue.
While mainstream media caters for the majority, 3ZZZ caters to the culturally and linguistically diverse communities across Melbourne – the 36% of Melbournians who speak a language other than English at home.

The station represents over 60 language/community groups, 100 programs, 400 volunteers, 3,000 members and 456,000 listeners in Melbourne.
Broadcasting on 92,3 FM, DAB+ and worldwide on 3zzz.com.au, the station provides an independent, alternative, and local voice in the media that actively encourages community participation.
The station is asking for community support through a donation or short video message recordings to share on social media and broadcast.
“It has been a tough couple of years, and volunteers have played a vital role in keeping our communities informed and engaged throughout the isolation of the pandemic,” wrote 3ZZZ.
“For over 33 years, 3ZZZ has been community-funded – donations are critical to the continuation and growth of 3ZZZ.”
The team hope to raise $120,000 to help replace its 25-year-old transmitter, which is currently broadcasting at less than half power.
