2DayFM Morning Crew’s ‘loose’ appearance on Today show
The 2DayFM Breakfast team of Erin Molan, Dave ‘Hughesy’ Hughes and Ed Kavalee appeared on Channel 9’s Today show this week in a bid to further promote the Sydney-centric show.
The segment involved the Today show, filmed in Sydney, crossing to 2Day’s Morning Crew, who were broadcasting down in Melbourne.
Molan is in Melbourne for her commitments as part of Channel 9’s coverage of the Australian Open tennis tournament.
Despite the cross revealing the radio trio was in Melbourne at the time, Hughes was asked his favourite thing about being in Sydney.
“We’re loving it. It’s the most beautiful city in Australia without a shadow of a doubt,” he said. “What we say is, ‘love the city you’re with’.”
He added: “Mate, I’m like Tom Brady. I’m the best. He went from New England Patriots to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and people said ‘You’re ruining your legacy’, but he wasn’t, he was winning another championship. And that’s what I’m doing moving from Melbourne to Sydney.”
Kavalee also said Molan was the “loosest unit” he has ever worked with, but she said many elements of her content offering simply weren’t making headlines.
“I’ve actually said lots of really smart, intelligent, inspiring things – no one just bloody writes about them,” she said.
Hughes then said “keep the headlines coming”.
They are in Melbourne incredible.
No mention in the article of the time delay in the interview which clearly was the source of all the chaos… great reporting….

And Dave Hughes doesn’t care because he’s getting $40k a week and then he’s out of there at the end of the year!

what a nasty bunch of loons you all are. yeah, that live TV cross just miraculously happened without anyone from SCA organising it. Erin is in Melbourne for Nine’s tennis stuff. Show sounds pretty good actually. Who gives two hoots where they are. So many jealous losers hang out here. Not much else on guys? Everyone should be supportive of all shows having a crack. A healthy category is good for everyone. Maybe some of you toxic ones might even land a gig one day.
Nothing but praise for 2Day trying to sort breakfast, but crossing to Sydney’s breakfast show live from Melbourne fuels the argument the show is not about Sydney.
I would have kept Hughesy and Ed at 2Day and crossed to Erin in Melbourne – she ads good credibility on sport and they could have started some healthy intercap banter.
Over on KIIS, Kyle is sitting in Port Douglas with everyone else at North Ryde and it still sounds like Sydney with a bit of fun from QLD. Now that’s how it’s done.
Tell the team to move to Sydney or deals off. Kate Tim and Joel are all in Sydney, you can hear the way the just ‘ gel ‘ good chemistry.
Not good for Dave Hughes who has had a great career, his TV show and Radio show both bombing. His TV show only drew 260,000 viewers, not good by any standard.
This new breakfast show will get a lot less listeners than that. Go back to Jamie Angel playing music, it was better to listen to.
This is not a good way for Dave Hughes career to end on such a low note.

Kate, Tim and Joel are not all in Sydney…. Joel is in Melbourne!
And I am listening to them from Melbourne since Eddie has left morning radio, its slim pickings on Melbourne radio these days

Both of these shows Today and 2Day have one thing in common, neither of them rate and neither of them ever will.
Wow – the keyboard warriors on this site are getting louder by the day. C’mon Radio Today, the comments sections here are starting to rival the Daily Mail’s for ‘constructive criticism’.
Hughesy, Ed & Erin are probably the strongest Breakfast line up 2DayFM have had in years. This constant argument of ‘the team must all be in Sydney for it to rate’ is ridiculous, especially when you consider Kyle Sandilands has been doing his show from locations outside Sydney on the regular for years and it hasn’t affected K&J’s ratings one bit.
