2AY develop second station, online

Staff Writer

While we have talked a lot about digital radio this week, there is one station that is getting proactive and making itself ready for when DAB+ comes to town.

2AY in Albury-Wodonga has launched its own online radio station, 2AY2, that will become their digital channel when it finally rolls out to regional centres.

Speaking to the 'Border Mail' 2AY GM, Mark Taylor, says…

"What we're trying to do with 2AY2 is, say you're listening and the football comes on and it's on 2AY and The River and the ABC, so the only music station in town is Star FM. Star FM plays a particular type of music but it's not generally suitable for those above 35 to 40 years old, so…..come on over to our other station (2AY2)"

Taylor says their core artists will be Phil Collins, Katy Perry, Adele and Spandau Ballet….although their player also suggest artists like John Farnham, Kiss and Michael Jackson.

Below is a 14 song snapshot of 2AY2 music…

Sunny Weather Lover Dionne Warwick 90s
You took the words right out of my mouth Meatloaf 70s
Bennie and the Jets Elton John 70s
Move Closer Phyllis Nelson 80s
A little bit me The Monkees 60s
Misery Maroon 5 2010
Summer Rain Belinda Carlisle 90s
Time in a bottle Jim Croce 70s
Marakesh Express Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young 60s
Emma Little River Band 70s
Blame it on the boogie The Jacksons 70s
I feel the earth move Carole King 70s
Don't stand so close to me The Police 80s
You give me something James Morrison 2006

2AY2 has a breakfast show hosted by Don Plenty, from sister station 3WM in Horsham, but for the rest of the day is without an announcer.

Ace Radio own 2AY, and this is their first step in developing a separate channel for their listeners, even without DAB+ in the market.
