2015 NAB Show Las Vegas Report

Staff Writer

Some come to the USA to experience Disneyland…,   the Adult version of Disneyland is Las Vegas, add to that, the 2015 NAB Show, and you will know why excitement levels were at an all-time high!

NAB, stands for National Association of Broadcasters.

By Day 2 over 100, 000 people had been through the doors of the NAB Show, the largest Broadcast Trade show in the world (ask our feet about that).

What felt like miles and miles (US conversion) of trade show floor, covering every aspect of Content Creation, with this year’s them being ‘Crave More’ and ‘where content comes to life’.

Radio had a strong presence at the show, with high class displays showing off the latest from companies like Wheatstone, RCS, Wide Orbit, Music Master, Nautel, Broadcast Bionics, Tieline and many more. HD radio was represented in many locations via the ‘Connected car’, with HD Radio being the US model for DAB+.

Conference rooms were broken into 3 streams, with Broadcast Management, Engineering and Post Production.

The show featured every element of Content Creation across all Digital Medium.

For Content creation; Podcasting and Live streaming were one of the key themes at this year’s show.

Engineering highlights included seeing Orban’s New PCn which is their new PC based processor that supports a new feature called Mono Upmix, which does a surprisingly good job of converting mono audio to stereo and surround.
Other noticeable trends outside of the Radio section included 4K TV and Data Storage for those 4K Files! 8K was also demonstrated.  This is where you will hear the storage term ‘Pentabyte’ being thrown around freely.

The ‘Big Boys Toys’ had to be the Drone displays. The most amazing collection of drones in action and seminars on how drones have transformed in the last 12 months, and where they are heading for future Aerial Content Creation. The term ‘Aerial Robots’ was used often.

Navigating the NAB show would not have been possible without their brilliant Smart Phone Ap.
This ensured you didn’t miss a second of the action, and with the 3D maps, could guide you very easily to the next location. Information exchange was done by a QR code and a scanner with exhibitors getting instant access to your information via your Linkedin profile from your exhibitor pass.

There was a strong Aussie contingent at this year’s NAB show in Las Vegas, including SCA, Nova Ent, Radio TAB, 2KY and of course Eon Broadcasting.

The old saying of ‘what happens in Vegas stay in Vegas’ does not apply with NAB show, with attendees leaving the show with new ideas and technologies which will give their stations a competitive edge. Well worth the companies investment.

They call Las Vegas, Sin City… and it was possible to indulge in all 7 sins right there at the 2015 NAB Show!

USA, USA, USA!
