1116 SEN beefs up summer offering with cricket legend Simon O’Donnell

Staff Writer

1116 SEN is positioning itself as the place to hear cricket over the summer, announcing former Australian cricketer and broadcasting veteran Simon O’Donnell will be joining the team.

Ahead the 2017/18 cricket season, O’Donnell will take to the airwaves from November as a regular guest across all 1116 SEN shows including co-hosting Summer Crunchtime on Saturdays.

Other duties will include a weekly one hour spot with Garry Lyon and Tim Watson on SEN Breakfast, as well as a number of live sports panel shows across summer and special appearances across all programs during the Test period.

O’Donnell, who represented Australia in cricket between 1985 and 1991, and was voted International Cricketer of the Year 1990/91, will weigh in on cricket across the summer and share his expert opinion and commentary.

A self-confessed cricket tragic, O’Donnell is honoured to join the 1116 SEN family.

“There’s no question that 1116 SEN is the home of sport, so I’m incredibly honoured to be welcomed into the team ahead of what’s expected to be a pretty exciting Ashes campaign on home soil,” said O’Donnell.

“Lyon, Watson, Bartlett, Schwarz… O’Donnell, yeah that sounds about right!”

General Manager of Radio at 1116 SEN, Cathy Thomas added that Simon O’Donnell’s expertise in the game of cricket and his passion and inside knowledge of other sports will be a great addition for the 1116 SEN audience.

“Simon has developed his audience strongly over the last few decades of his career in the media and we believe he will be a perfect fit for the listeners of 1116 SEN.”
