Dean ‘Deano’ Thomas has played a key role as anchor of the Chrissie, Sam and Browny Breakfast show since it launched on Nova 100 in 2016.

Deano joined NOVA Entertainment in 2009 as a weekend announcer on Nova 937 Perth. He moved to Melbourne in 2011 to host national Late Nights before moving to mornings in 2013.

He answers 10 Questions from Radio Today.

Where did you get your start in radio?

RedFM in Western Australia, a largely mining radio network.

Why radio as a career?

My sister worked in the industry back then.  It looked like she was having a ripper of a time.

Has there been anyone who has had an influence along the way?

Darren DeMello, Gavin Miller and Dylan Lewis.

If you weren’t in radio, what would you be doing?

I think writing and creating comedy ‘bits’ in some capacity.

How has your role changed over the past couple of years?

I’ve anchored Chrissie Sam and Browny for the last three years and in that time, they’ve been kind enough to let me bring to air some increasingly weird stuff.  I love them lots.

Any ‘pinch me now’ moments?

I spent a small amount of time with Robin Williams. It was magic. He was magic.

Any advice for those starting out?

Do radio the way you personally would like to hear it!

What’s the best advice you’ve been given?

Listen to people who you admire.  They are full of ripper advice.

One thing you can’t live without?

Weekends.

Three words to describe radio?

Fun. Free food.
