Weekend changes to see some 3AW news bulletins sourced from Sydney
Reporter
Tapt Media has confirmed that from this weekend, 3AW will source its news from Sydney instead of Melbourne, impacting Saturday afternoon and Sunday night shifts.
The company points out that on Saturday and Sunday afternoons, there are no news bulletins on 3AW due to its AFL coverage.
During these times, news will come from 2GB if required.
Brian Wilson usually reads Saturday and Sunday afternoons bulletins on 3AW. Both he and Karalee Katsambanis, who presents 3AW’s Sunday night news, will be given alternative shifts.
On Saturday nights, Tapt Media’s national news will come out of 3AW for the rest of the network.

This was what excited me about the new ownership, was hoping for a better news service. The excitemen was short lived.t
What I don’t get is why the news seems to be coming out of 3AW on Saturday nights (and presumably, also for the overnight service) while it’s from 2GB on Sunday nights. Wouldn’t it make more logistical sense to have all the off-peak bulletins presented from one location?
Of course, it would’ve been nice to see the Tapt Media ownership era result in 2GB and 3AW becoming completely 24/7 news services again but at this point we probably should be thankful they haven’t taken the Super Radio Network approach by running pre-recorded bulletins for hours on end after 8pm on weeknights and likely for a decent chunk of the day on weekends!
