Real Live and Relevant radio

Yesterday following the tragic Phil Walsh news, Radio Today received an email from Mike Fitzpatrick Triple M Network Content Director.

Mike said: “Regarding your story on Beats 1. Here’s part of a note I sent to everyone today regarding the Phil Walsh story and how we responded.

Mike Fitzpatrick“I have a fill in show live on air during survey break (instead of best of replays) on 3MMM for these reasons. Wayne Carey & Mark Rucuitto were able to speak from the heart about a man they were both close to.

We did a live hour of talk from Triple M footy (unbranded) at midday using both Melbourne and Adelaide talent, live into both markets on 3MMM, 5MMM & Hit107. 5MMM kept their brekky show on all morning, and brought their drive show in two hours earlier. And Triple M started the Footy call early to catch the commuter audience.

“Today has shown the power radio wields over Apple streaming. Today was one of those gather round the radio moments in southern states.  Talk to your city, let your city talk to you.

“What we have, is what APPLE doesn’t. A real, authentic connection with the people in our cities  A day to throw out the format and report and reflect the ONLY thing our audience is talking about today.

“Local, relevant, compelling and passionate content and connections will win every day of the week. We’ve been doing this for 35 years… we ARE the best in Australia at what we do, and amongst the best in the world.

We’ll keep doing it because it’s in our DNA, but it only happens if we’re aware, passionate and active.”

Triple M Melbourne showed what real, live and local radio really means following yesterdays sad news. A great response to a tragic event. And brilliant programming.
