Nova’s Jase & Lauren snare #1 in Melbourne FM Breakfast

Nova 100’s Jase & Lauren are Melbourne’s new #1 FM Breakfast show, gaining 0.3 points for a 9.9 share in GfK Survey 5 for 2024.
Bolstering the celebrations, the team of Jase Hawkins, Lauren Phillips and Clint Stanaway also saw a cume increase of 28,000.
Group Program Director for the Nova Network Brendan Taylor says “This is a great day for Nova and we’re absolutely over the moon for the Melbourne breakfast team.”
“To hit number one is an incredible result and a wonderful redemption story for Jase, Lauren and Clint. To achieve this just a few months after launching the show is a testament to our hugely talented breakfast team and their connection to Melbourne listeners. And on top of this, having the most listened to breakfast shows in four out of five markets across Australia is the icing on the cake.”
The Fox FM brekky team of Fifi, Fev & Nick climbed 0.1 to now sit second with a 9.6 share, with Gold 104.3’s The Christian O’Connell Show dropping to third (-2.5 to 8.3).
Smooth also experienced a drop in Melbourne Breakfast, down from 8.6 to 7.9.
In its first full survey on Melbourne’s KIIS 101.1, The Kyle & Jackie O Show increased its share to 6.1%, overtaking Triple M, while attracting 491,000 listeners each week.
ARN’s Chief Content Officer Duncan Campbell says “Kyle and Jackie O’s rise in share in Melbourne is what we anticipated and reflects what we are seeing in our internal tracking.”
“As we’ve said before, building momentum in new markets requires time, and we remain confident in our long-term growth strategy.”
3AW remains the clear leader in Breakfast overall, gaining 2.5 to move to a 21.3 share.
Interestingly, FM Breakfast listening was down across the board, whereas on the AM dial, cumes were up across 3AW, RSN, Magic and 3MP.
Well done Jase and Lauren (and Clint). It’s good to see good people rewarded. Knew you had a good show, with good content and connects with the people of Melbourne.

K&J “building momentum” off a 0.2 share (with Kiis 101.1 down overall)?
Magic 1278 breakfast got a 0.3 bump, while 3MP breakfast got a 0.6 bump (triple K&J’s rise) without spending a cent on promotion… and they’re AM Music Stations!
Duncan Campbell’s real quote: “Kyle and Jackie O’s rise of 0.2 in share in Melbourne is what we anticipated. After decreases in five consecutive books, where else what it suppose to go? I’m so glad we replaced that other show which has now had eight consecutive increases acorss two different networks”.
Jase and Lauren show probably costs Nova say Two Million per year. Kyle and Jackie show costs a reported Twenty Million per year.
Duncan Campbell should have been smarter and kept Jase and Lauren on national drive on KIIS.
It’s almost like it wasn’t the breakfast show that was the problem on 101.1…..

Jackie ” O ” s fake American accent will put off a lot of people in Melbourne. melbourne is a genuine, real, no bullshit sort of place and she just sounds ” fake ” like a wannabe Kardashian. At least Kyle is real and doesnt fake it.
I went from Chrissie, Sam & Brownie to Marty Sheargold and back to Nova. Love, love, love Jase and Lauren! You couldn’t pay me to listen to those trash talkers on the competing station. Well done on being number one guys, very much deserved.
$200,000,000. That is Kyle and Jackie O’s decade long deal. Between this and the Grant Broadcasters buyout you’d hate to be a ARN shareholder. Yikes. Yikes. Yikes.
Too bad for all the Nova journalists who’ve just been made redundant to accommodate all the money being spent on them. Ah well.
Why does ARN have so many layers of content middle management and consultants when they basically cannot influence or impact the breakfast show sound, strategy or direction – as Kyle has himself said?
