Nova’s Chrissie, Sam & Browny to hang up the headphones

NOVA Entertainment has today confirmed that after seven successful years on air, Chrissie, Sam & Browny have decided that 2022 will be their last year as Nova 100’s breakfast show, with their final show on Friday 2 December.

The ACRA award winning trio will depart on top having been the #1 FM or #2 FM Melbourne breakfast show 19 times since launch. With that in mind, the trio feel the time is right to spread their wings and try new things while the going is still so undeniably good.

Peter Charlton, NOVA Entertainment CEO, says “Chrissie, Sam & Browny are talented broadcasters with a unique chemistry that has seen them engage with and endear themselves to their listeners. We are so proud of the success they have achieved over the past seven years. They’re leaving at the top of their game and we wish them well for what comes next for them, both inside and outside of NOVA Entertainment.”

After 20 years on breakfast radio and with her TV career taking on new heights in 2022, Chrissie Swan will take on a fresh challenge in a new role with the Nova Network. Further details will be revealed shortly.

Chrissie says “I’m so proud of what we’ve achieved professionally and personally since we first met in 2015 – especially the last few years as we all kept each other afloat during the pandemic. I’m thrilled to now put a bow on the absolute gift of the Chrissie, Sam & Browny experience and am looking forward to a new adventure with Nova.”

Having spent seven years as co-host of Chrissie, Sam & Browny, Sam Pang is looking forward to sleeping in.

Sam says “It’s been a privilege doing breakfast radio in my hometown. I’ve loved my time at Nova and I would like to thank everyone who has been involved in the show over the past seven years. I would especially like to thank the listeners for their support. It has been a wonderful experience. I’ve made some life-long friends and feel very lucky to have worked with such an amazing team.”

AFL legend Jonathan ‘Browny’ Brown has made the seamless transition from a champion of the AFL to much-loved broadcaster. Browny got his start on radio for Nova 106.9 in Brisbane in 2005 and has endeared himself to listeners as part of the Nova 100 breakfast show in Melbourne over the last seven years.

He says “When the opportunity presented itself to work alongside Chrissie, Sam and Deano seven years ago it cemented my family’s decision to make the move to Melbourne and start a new chapter post-footy. I’ve shared some life-changing moments with our listeners and the team have become like family to me.”

“I’m grateful to the Nova family and our listeners for the opportunities in both Brisbane and Melbourne over the past 17 years and finish up feeling proud of what we’ve created together.”

After 15 years with the Nova Network, including seven years as anchor for Chrissie,Sam & Browny, much loved team member and audience favourite Dean “Deano” Thomas will also depart. A talented content creator, Deano plans to concentrate on a range of projects including the second series of his animated short form comedy Childish Deano, funded by Screen Australia, due to be released shortly.

Over the coming weeks, Chrissie, Sam & Browny will celebrate their seven years on air in their own unique way with special guests, their favourite segments, the entertaining content that their listeners have come to expect as well as some unexpected surprises. An announcement on who will replace the team will be made in due course.

they will be replaced by Ben and Liam. No question these guys will end up somewhere else – SCA or ARN would kill for a show like this one.

What I am hearing is that Chrissy will join Fitzy & Wippa in Sydney full time while Ben & Liam are set to take on Melbourne Breaky, landscape changing for Nova thats for sure!

Wow a network that can’t find a role for one of the absolute best in the business? Someone smart snap up Deano ASAP! The guy is a pistol

One of the funniest, most natural and consistent shows in Australia.
Always found it odd that Nova persisted with pushing Fitzy and Wippa as the national highlights show, when this was a far superior product, anchored by talent with greater national profiles in Chris and Sam.
Big hole to fill!

Serious question – yesterday was a huge news day for radio with Nova breakfast wrapping up and Kyle walking off-air after his interview with Alan Jones was dumped. Why has there been no coverage of the second story on the site?

I find 3 hosts are to many, its just a talk fest but thats just me. 2 is enough. If l was ARN l would get Sam Pang to join Kiss.

Truly will go down as one of radio’s great shows. A masterclass in casting, chemistry & character – and Dean Thomas is an out & out superstar.
