Kip Wightman joins Robin and Terry on Brisbane’s KIIS 97.3 Breakfast

A brand-new Breakfast team is set to kick start Brisbane’s day when Kip Wightman joins Robin and Terry for their new show, Robin, Terry & Kip, from next Monday, January 24.

At the same time, it appears that ARN has extended the KIIS brand to 97.3 Brisbane, with the news of Kip’s appointment being made in a media release that bears the KIIS name and branding.

Born and bred in Brisbane, Kip is well known to listeners locally. Prior to joining KIIS 97.3, Kip was part of the breakfast show on NOVA 106.9 Brisbane for 15 years.

With an extensive radio career, Kip has enjoyed also enjoyed hosting roles in radio in Perth and Sydney and spent time living and working in the United States on radio in Boston.

KIIS 97.3FM’s Robin, Terry & Kip plans to make life feel even better in Brisbane in 2022 with vibrant content, lively conversation, and plenty of surprises ahead for 97.3 listeners. Kip left Nova in October last year.

ARN’s Chief Content Officer, Duncan Campbell said: “Brisbane audiences love Kip, and he loves Brisbane; it’s a perfect combination. He brings great energy and enthusiasm, perfect for starting the day, and we are excited that he will be part of the new energized breakfast show on KIIS 97.3.”

Kip is “stoked to be working with Robin and Terry, I’ve been loving my time away from radio but the opportunity to work with these two was too good to pass up, even if I have to start waking up before the sun again.

“I haven’t looked forward to getting into the studio like this in years! Robin and Terry are such a great mix of funny and relatable, 2022 is going to be epic!” said Kip.

Robin Bailey said, “New Year, new show and a new guy to hang out with on air, it is the start to a perfect year. I’m pretty sure this year is going to be the best so far with lots of fun, surprises, and things you will never forget.  I can’t wait to get back behind the mic as I know everyone is just going to love Kip!”

Terry Hansen added, “I’ve watched Kip’s work from afar for many, many years and think he’s a great brekky radio guy. I can’t say more without revealing my man crush! I’m delighted he’s on our team now.”

Robin, Terry & Kip will begin on KIIS 97.3 breakfast from 5.30am – 9.00am next week, delayed by one week because Robin has had covid.

About time they changed the call sign to Kiis. The old 97.3FM is so yesterday.

Kip, I know times have been tough, but honestly; you need to iron your shirt.

Or have it ironed for you. Happy to do so. Radio Today have my contact details.

Congratulations on your new job. There was only ever one logical choice for this role. I’m glad Duncan has made the right decision.

They rebranded because they now own river 94.9 the stations are too close format wise. But the station name should have changed years ago. They should syndicate KJ instead of a old 97.3 format

Knew Kip would come back to radio at some point but surprised it was so soon. Not even 3 months.

Considering how abrupt his departure from Nova was I kind of guessed his reasoning of “concentrate on being a good single father” was just PR speak.

It would be a breath of fresh air if someone just said, ‘I need a change of scenery’. No one would begrudge the guy.

Anyway, good luck Kip!

We get it you like K&J

Can we all just collectively agree that any time an update about a Sydney or Melbourne ARN show gets posted on the site, there’s no need for some joker to write “they should syndicate K&J”. Every time!
