Jobs to go as SCA overhauls its news department
Reporter
More jobs are set to go at SCA, as the company overhauls its news department.
Confirming the changes, an SCA spokesperson said “SCA is evolving the way we gather and prepare news bulletins to better serve audiences across Australia, now and into the future.”
“News bulletins will continue to be delivered by journalists based in provincial and metro hubs across the country, allowing us to strengthen and expand our regional news coverage.”
“Unfortunately, this means some roles have been impacted. We are supporting our people through this difficult transition.”
“SCA will continue to prioritise quality localised news to audiences across Australia.”
Just over a week ago, it was announced that SCA and Seven West Media had agreed to a merger.
Pathetic, just have one station for the whole country and end it !
Was always going to happen with the merger. More good people out of the industry, how much can we keep chipping away at the tree before the whole thing falls over…
this has been coming for years…economies of scale but that glib overview does not factor the dedication effort and belief of radio newspeople around the country who have lost their gigs. was such a career to be proud of…..once
Can we hear a bit more about the AI aspect of this restructure? Apparently AI is going to gather the stories and write the scripts, and a journo will just read it. Feels like a significant development.
Surely ARN is next with redundancies?! Shareholders would have to be questioning their over resourced newsrooms when the rest of the networks get away with a lot less.
SCA usiung AI to make the newsroon more efficient, maybe they could try some AI characters on the 2Dayfm breakfast show too.
Aye Eye, that would require critical thinking which seems to be beyond the scope of the articles published here.
AI ! Rip radio
