Gold Coast radio gets behind family in need
Hot Tomato and Sea FM on the Gold Coast have both rallied behind the family of a local man who was killed by lightning a week ago.
Kane Bennett was caught in a severe storm on the Coast on election day last saturday, and whilst sheltering his children, took a direct lightning strike and passed away.
Hot Tomato's "Flan & Emily Jade" were the first to mobilise earlier this week, engaging with their listeners to ensure donations to the account set up in the family's name were increased substantially; resulting in the targeted financial goal being doubled.
Additionally, "Flan & Emily Jade" have enlisted the support of a myriad of Gold Coast tradesmen, businesses and suppliers to put in place a plan to finish the uncompleted Bennet family renovation.
Now, Sea FM are also supporting the family. On Monday they will look to raise $10,000 when Paul Gale from the "Galey, Ross & Charli" Breakfast show will aim to complete 10,000 skips for $10,000 in donations as he "Skips for Kane".
And the support from the local radio stations is clearly appreciated, with the family sending the below message to Hot Tomato via their Facebook page last week.
This connection to community is something radio does better than any other mainstream media. Well done to both Hot Tomato and Sea FM.
