Fairfax Radio sign 5 year deal for cricket
Cricket Australia have announced the signing of a 5 year radio rights agreement with Fairfax Radio Network.
2UE, 3AW, 6PR and 4BC will broadcast the Commonwealth Bank Boxing Day and Sydney Tests, the Carlton Mid One Day International Series, the KFC T20INTL series, and the KFC BBL.
As part of the radio rights agreement, home Test, one-day international and T20 internationals will air across the network, while most KFC BBL matches will be aired to the markets of the teams taking part in each match as well as nationally via DAB+.
Fairfax Radio Network will look to work with regional radio stations and with Adelaide (most likely Fiveaa) to provide further coverage.
Cricket Australia Executive GM – Media, Communications & Marketing Ben Amarfio said:
“We hope it is the first of a number of radio rights agreements to be announced in the lead up to a huge summer of cricket. Our work with all of our broadcast partners is designed to take the game to the widest audience possible and to help make cricket Australia’s favourite team sport. Today’s announcement certainly helps us with this goal and we look forward to working with Fairfax Radio Network over the coming seasons.
“We are also looking forward to Cricket Australia’s sponsors leveraging their association with cricket through this new radio rights arrangement.”
Fairfax Radio Network Managing Director, Adam Lang said:
“We are excited to be broadcasting a sport that plays such an integral role in the Australian way of life. Cricket has a rich history of sporting success for our nation and we are delighted to be a part of its future.
“We want to create destination content for the sport across summer for our audience and our advertisers. It’s an exciting day for us all and an honour for us to be a part of such a respected and much loved sport.”
