Comedy and Commentary on Triple M’s cricket coverage this summer

Some of cricket’s biggest names and one of Australia’s most loved comedians will join Triple M and LiSTNR’s cricket commentary line up for the 2021-22 Vodafone Ashes series.

Andy Lee will take up a seat at the commentary desk, bringing his fresh comedy perspective to the commentary team.

He will be along side other new additions to the commentary lineup: Aaron Finch, who captained the Australian T20 team to World Cup Victory and former Sydney Thunder captain Callum Ferguson.

Rounding out the new line up additions is Triple M’s very own cricket tragic Gus Worland.

The newest recruits join cricket royalty Sir Ian Botham, who currently has a funny promo running on Channel 7  to promote his presence in the radio and tv commentary teams. Mark Taylor AO will also be in the commentary box for what’s set to be an action packed 2021-22 Summer of Cricket.

Triple M’s commentary team will be led by James Brayshaw and Australia’s #1 sports podcaster Mark Howard, with former Ashes greats Greg Blewett, Brad Haddin, Merv Hughes, and former international cricketer Isabelle Westbury, alongside Triple M regulars, Emma Freedman and Nat Yoannidis.

Andy Lee has a unique take on his approach to sport commentary. “Having done tours in the Caribbean, the last Ashes in the UK and numerous tests across Australia over the last decade, I can remember roughly half of them due to the number of beers consumed. That puts me in good enough stead to commentate the Cricket for Triple M.”

Triple M and LiSTNR have signed up six new partners for the 2021-22 season. Well-known brands including Coopers Mild Ale, Anaconda, Canadian Club, Ladbrokes, and Prospa will be aligned with the network’s national cricket broadcast.

SCA National Head of Sports and Partnerships Trevor Crook says: “Talent led integration that provides meaningful and effective connection with audiences at scale is at the core of every Triple M sport partnership. It’s a tried, tested and proven model over many years of Triple M Footy and we look forward to delivering for all of our cricket partners this summer.”

In an Australian first, LiSTNR will stream every game Australia wide. Along with the FM broadcast in the capital cities, cricket fans will be able to download the LiSTNR app and hear the call wherever they play, work and holiday right across Australia.

Andy Lee does play a bit of cricket, so knows the game and has has previous experience in the commentary box during several international cricket fixtures in recent years. In one charity match he took a spectacular catch that showed off some of his skills.

All this massive expense which I think is absolutely ridiculous because it will be a huge struggle to cover these costs and they lose all the music loving Triple M listeners that hate cricket

@peter Johnson, MMM have long covered the cricket with success and the music will be on 1 of their other platforms

This is cool but needs to take a leaf out of the Alternative Commentary Collective’s book if it wants to be anything successful.
