Australian DJ CYRIL tops half year National Radio Airplay Charts

Last November Australian DJ Cyril Riley, better known just as CYRIL released a remixed version of Suzi Quatro and Chris Norman’s Stumblin’ In to TikTok where it went viral when players from Bayern Munich featured it in one of their videos. It went to No 1 in Germany and caught the ear of the Nova Network’s Head of Music Scott Baker-Smith.

Smith saw its potential and began playing it on the network weeks before anyone else. It has been the most played song on Australian radio for the first half of this year, with 19,177 spins.

Baker-Smith said:

“As the first to play CYRIL on commercial radio, Nova has reaffirmed our hit music position and demonstrated our passion for local artists that can compete on the world stage. Upon its release, we playlisted the track immediately and it was pleasing to see it resonate with Nova’s audience just as quickly.”

It is also the only Australian track to top the National Radio Airplay Charts in 2024.

Alongside CYRIL there has also been a host of new artists getting plenty of airplay. Benson Boone, Teddy Swims, Doechii, Dasha, Shaboozey, Kenya Grace and Tyla all peaked in the Top 5 on the weekly charts, with Boone and Swims reaching #1.

Ten other singles by Australian artists made the chart in the first half of 2024. Troye Sivan did it twice with ‘Got Me Started’ (#4) and ‘Rush’ (#26) alongside Vance Joy, Amy Shark, Sia and more. Taylor Swift, Post Malone and Dua Lipa had three entries each.
