96FM announcer Mark ‘Smiley’ Pascoe racks up 30 years in radio

Former Assistant Editor

Australian Radio Network’s 96FM kicked off celebrating its 40th anniversary early yesterday by surprising Mornings announcer Mark ‘Smiley’ Pascoe for a milestone of his own.

Smiley seemed to have forgotten that Thursday the 25th was such a significant date, but the good folks at 96FM weren’t about to let him get off that easy. They pulled off a massive surprise party, rolling out a literal red carpet for him.

That was followed by balloons, bubbles and a cake, with Smiley living up to his nickname.

“From the age of 12 I only had one dream, to be a Radio Announcer on 96FM and every morning at 9 o’clock I get to live out that dream! I truly am the luckiest guy in the world and what a privilege to be part of the team during 96FM’s 40th anniversary,” said Pascoe.

He got his start at 6MD after studying at the WA Academyt of Perfoming Arts, before going on to have stints at 6PR, 6iX, and Spirit Radio.

Pascoe took 96FM Mornings to #1 in the ratings for the first time in two decades in 2012.

He still hosts the show to this day, from 9am-1pm Weekdays on 96FM.
