4RO celebrates the big 9-0

Reporter

4RO – a radio station that’s part of the Rockhampton and Central Queensland landscape – is celebrating its 90th birthday this month.

Officially opened on July 2nd, 1932, 4RO’s first day of broadcasting featured local and national races, as well as international football.

4RO’s first studio was located on the corner of East and Denham Streets in Rockhampton’s CBD.

The studio was on the second floor of the building, and an aerial strung between two masts on the back of the building was responsible for transmitting a power of 200 watts.

In 2013, Grant Broadcasters acquired 4RO and 4CC, along with nine other stations across Queensland.

4RO was again sold to the Australian Radio Network as part of an Australia-wide purchase of the Grant Broadcasters network.

Now in Quay Street, 4RO is known as the voice and talk of Central Queensland.

Happy birthday 4RO.
