2024 edition of triple j’s Unearthed High features school radio show

Reporter

The search for Australia’s best high school aged artist is underway, with applications now open for triple j’s Unearthed High.

Since the competition began 16 years ago, Unearthed High has uncovered talent including The Kid Laroi, Sycco, Gretta Ray, Hockey Dad, Teenage Joans and Genesis Owusu.

Last year’s champion LEE was fourteen years old and has already achieved global reach.

This year’s winner will be flown to a songwriting session with their choice of one of four Australian artists – Cosmo’s Midnight, Kobie Dee, Peach PRC or Teen Jesus and the Jean Teasers.

The Unearthed High Indigenous Initiative returns, celebrating the best Unearthed High entry from a First Nations artist and giving them a chance to win a songwriting workshop at their school, courtesy of the APRA AMCOS’ Songmaker Program.

This year’s competition also features a school radio show, Unearthed High After Class.

Broadcasting every Thursday at 3:30pm, it’s a show by, for and about high school students.

Unearthed will feature a half-hour special of songs entered in this year’s competition that is hosted by year eleven students.
