The Quills
They’re not ACRAs, but the party is almost as much fun, but not as much fake smiles and backstabbing.
They’re the Melbourne Press Club Quill Awards: one of Australia’s most prestigious media awards.
The Quills recognise excellence in journalism across all disciplines and radio is very much part of the landscape.
There are two radio specific categories: Best News Report and Best Radio Current Affairs Report.
However, there are other categories that may be relevant:
- Best Use of Digital or Social Media
- Best Sports News Story in any medium
- Best Breaking News Coverage
To be eligible, the entrant must be employed by a Victorian media organisation, work primarily in Victoria or has been sent from Victoria on a specific interstate or overseas assignment for a Victorian media organisation.
The entry must have been published or broadcast between 01 January 2014 to 31 December 2014 and must be submitted by 6 February, 2015.
The winners will be announced at the Quill Award night on Friday, March 20, 2014.
It should be noted that The Quills are peer judged and, unlike the ACRAS, there is no time limit on the entry. They’re also judged on their merit, not reputation.
I’ve had the pleasure and honour of judging for the Quills for a few years and am determined to get more radio people involved from all regions: metro and country.
So, what’s stopping you?
