96FM rebrands

Staff Writer

In a wide-ranging and quite open interview in Mediaweek, Brad McNally from 96FM in Perth has spoken about the recent relaunch of the station, with a new logo and positioning statement –  'keep real music alive'.

'I can't think of any other station in Australia that is similarly positioned, or sounds like we do now' – McNally told Mediaweek. 'We have given the station a heart and character of it's own'.

McNally has revealed that Fairfax considered changing the name of the station, however decided against it in the end as '96FM still means a lot to many Perth people'.

McNally has also given his view on the other FM stations in the Perth market:

On 92.9 – 'continues to be a hit pop culture station'.

On Nova – 'it's a weak copy of 92.9 now'.

On Mix 94.5 – 'Mix in Perth is a lot more like a Triple M almost than say Mix Melbourne. They play AC/DC and Cold Chisel, they have to as they try and block us.

The campaign for the 96FM relaunch is from Perth agency Meerkats and can be seen here.
