3 years and a new partnership with Acast for the Toni and Ryan podcast

In August 2021 Toni Lodge and Ryan Jon made the decision to invest in themselves and their friendship starting the Toni and Ryan podcast. Three years, 700 episodes and a social media following of 3.5 million later, they’ve just signed a new multiyear, multichannel partnership with Acast and announced several exciting initiatives for “TARPers” (Toni and Ryan Podcasters) to accompany it.

The duo have become one of Australia’s most successful podcasting exports and a benchmark for those seeking to start their own. Toni and Ryan regularly get more than 3 million monthly downloads from all around the world and were previously one of the few Australian Spotify exclusive podcasts.Acast Australia and New Zealand’s Creator Network Director Guy Scott-Wilson said it is the local and international reach which makes Toni and Ryan a good partnership option:

“We’ve been huge fans of Toni and Ryan since the very start, and have been cheering them on from the sidelines as they bring their unique format to audiences around the world. They are absolute masters of the craft of podcasting, so it’s no surprise to see them resonate so deeply with international audiences. Acast has a physical presence in 15 countries around the world, so we’re so pleased to be partnering with Toni and Ryan to continue to grow their global community of TARPers, maximise their commercial opportunities across audio and social and increase the relevance of commercial messages to their local audiences.”

Toni and Ryan will now be available across all podcast platforms, including full-length video episodes on YouTube for the first time and perhaps appearances finally on the Australian Podcast Ranker. The podcast has already accrued more than 600,000 subscribers on the video platform, which will be part of Acast’s offering to advertisers.

Alongside the partnership Toni and Ryan are having a third birthday party on Saturday, 17 August and TARPers around the world are invited to attend, provided they can guess “Where in the world are Toni and Ryan?”

Ryan said in an episode this week:

“Somewhere in the world, we’re throwing a party. It’s in a physical location, and everyone’s invited. The only catch is you have to find where we are, and you can come and have a beer and we’ll hang out.

It’s your job to figure out the clues, figure out where the party is, and come on down and let’s have a good time.”

There’ll be daily clues as to the location from next Monday August 12, which is also the first episode released with Acast.

Toni said:

“We’ve had an amazing time being part of the Spotify team for the past two years and are grateful to everyone we’ve worked alongside. Now moving to Acast is really exciting for our little business and we couldn’t be happier to join forces with them! We love making our podcast and serving our TARPers all over the world, so getting to keep doing this job is the best part.”

Ryan added:

“Whilst it’s flattering to receive offers from Spotify and the big radio networks, we’ve got our own little team and our own little studio, and are quite happy being independent creators doing our own little thing. Acast has already done incredibly well generating revenue for the podcast. From here, they’ll keep doing the job of managing ads and sponsorships, and I’ll keep doing the job of sitting across from Toni and laughing my ass off.”

The Toni and Ryan podcast releases daily episodes, available on all podcast platforms from Monday, as well as video versions on YouTube from September.

Hard to know if the chemistry would translate from podcast to radio. They’d be great on weekend breakfast. Or maybe succession for Smallzy when he’s ready for the next step.

@Chip Radio can’t afford these guys anymore and radio as an industry is also stuck in an old school system with “content directors” and many other rigid rules.

Chip, sorry mate, but you are so far off the mark with this. Toni and Ryan have audiences, both here and overseas that would be the equal of the biggest FM breakfast shows in the country. They need radio like a hole in the head. The idea that one of the most successful podcasts in Australia would welcome the opportunity to do nights on FM is literally bonkers.

Looks to me with those numbers that they have outgrown radio. There’s not really anything like this on radio which is a shame.
