Wollongong Survey released
The Wollongong radio ratings have been released this morning (summary report here). The survey is the first in the market since November 2010 and shows some signficant movements in the market.
I98 are the big winners with a significant 5.5% increase 10+ to hold a 28.5% overall market share. This was driven by increases in all demographics (aside from 18-24) and all dayparts, with Breakfast and the Workday recording particularly strong growth.
The growth has been driven largely by TSL, as the Cume result for I98 was only marginally up to 102,000. The station has clearly received some heavy diaries in this survey.
I98 General Manager Jason Saladino told Radio Today:
“This outstanding result represents the hard work, skill and dedication of the entire staff who strive to produce quality local content every day……..we have announcers who are genuine local personalities within the community…...we will continue to work hard to ensure we remain entertaining and relevant whilst maintaining our strong sense of community.”
Grant Broadcasters station Wave FM have recorded a generally flat result falling by 0.6% to 17.3%, with no consistent trend emerging in the dayparts, or demographics. Wave FM have recorded a small Cume fall to 73,000.
The only positives, in what is a disappointing result for Wave FM will be an increase under 40, and in Drive. Nevertheless the station is well behind its opposition.
Wave FM's sister station Power FM, technically a Nowra station, fell to 1.6% and is clearly not considered an option for Wollongong listeners.
ABC station 97.3 recorded a fall of 3.6% to 11.4% with significant decline in the 40+ demographics.
Triple J was stable on 7.1%.
The Sydney stations can all be heard clearly in Wollongong, particularly in the northern suburbs, and of those stations the strongest performing was 2GB on 5.4%, and 2Day FM on 4.3%.
