Winners of Next Top Jock announced

Australia's Next Top Jock was a 12 week comp organised by Fox FM ACD Adrian Brine and arvo jock Keegan Bakker.

The contest was searching for SCA’s best Metro and Provincial Jocks.

The internal SCA website saw their workday jocks share breaks and ideas, a source of inspiration for all up and coming jocks in the network.

Every week jocks uploaded one break for judging by the likes of Craig Bruce, Dave Cameron, Derek Bargwanna, Mickey Maher and other SCA programmers.

Some weeks were even themed – ‘Local’, ‘Less is More’, ‘Passion’, ‘Best Breakfast Sell’ etc.

The winners were announced today.

METRO – A tie between MC from Fox FM and Ellie Mobbs from 2Day FM.

PROVINCIAL – Perry Lazarus from Hot FM Townsville

Of her win, Ellie said:

“I am on cloud 9! The screams, jumping and cheering around the office like a school girl shows how much this means to me. It’s nice for us jocks to finally be recognised. The comp was fantastic, not only were we able to get ideas from one another I was able to nurture some of the provincial kids. I mentored Perry (who won the provincials) so I’m like a proud mum! I look forward to spooning MC in LA”.

She also had some tips for new people getting into radio:

Get a mentor – get in contact with one of your fav announcers and get tips off them. We aren’t that scary, I’m happy to help you out!
Keep it simple – don’t over complicate your breaks. Keep them tight, bright and one thought per break
Be yourself – don’t be someone you aren’t
Show passion for your music and your job! It’s the best gig in the World so have fun.

Michael Christian added:

"If this competition has taught me anything, it’s that there’s a LOT of talent in this company. Plus it’s given all our announcers access to ideas, ways of thinking and people we might normally have day to day contact with. From the start I felt like I had something to prove to myself. That regardless of all that’s happened in the past few months I’m still at the top of my game. So it felt good to see my name at the top of the final leader board! Congrats to Ellie and Perry as well. Bring on round two!"

Provincial winner Perry said:

"The NTJ experience has been amazing and something I’ll never forget! On a personal note it’s been a great help in bettering myself as an announcer and hearing what everyone else is doing. It pushes and motivates you to be the best that you can be. This has defiantly been a great confidence booster!"

MC and Ellie are off to LA to take a tour of KIIS FM while Perry won a golden ticket to the Fox School of Radio, tickets to Rihanna and the footy.
