Judging Notes
This year the judging panel had to make some difficult decisions. Not all categories were awarded both a Major and an Indie winner and in a few categories there was a tie.
The Best Crime Podcast category was only awarded to a Major podcast publishing company, News Ltd Podcasts, no Indie was awarded in that category. Best Education and Best Fiction categories were only awarded to Indie podcast publishers.
In the Best Interview category there was a tie for the Major section, with News Ltd and Nova tied for the Major winner in that category. The Indie winner in the Best Interview category was The Good People Podcast.
In the Best News category no Indie winner was awarded, but there was a tie in the Major section of that category, with the ABC and ARN both awarded the top prize in that category.
Majors are large podcast publishing companies that publish more than 5 podcast series per year. Indies are small companies, sole traders, individuals, students and not-for-profits that publish less than 5 podcast series per year.
Judges did not mark any entries associated with their own companies and did not see any of the marks given by other judges. Each category was judged by at least three judges. Judges did not know who else was judging their assigned entries.
The People’s Choice Award, won by High Scrollers, was a popularly voted award open to podcast listeners and fans. People could only vote for one finalist and could only vote once. Over 5000 votes were recorded this year.
Thanks to our 2024 sponsors
Sponsors of the Radio Today 2024 Australia/NZ Podcast Awards were:
SCA’s LiSTNR, one of Australia’s home grown podcast publishing companies.
Commercial Radio & Audio, the commercial radio and podcast industry body that has been responsible for the growth and success of Australia’s commercial audio industry.
AFTRS was an overall sponsor and specifically supported the Best New Podcast category, which was a good fit for Australia’s leading training institution in the media sector. AFTRS is celebrating 50 years this year of training that has enriched Australia’s radio, television and film industries for half a century.
Triton Digital, a leading technology and service provider to the digital audio, podcast, and broadcast radio industries, supported the Best Podcast Publisher category.
RØDE is the sponsor of the RODE Prize, which will be announced soon. The winner will receive a set of podcast studio equipment from the Australian company that has now become a world leader in manufacturing microphones, recording equipment and podcast studio gear.
We thank all this year’s sponsors for their support of the Australian and New Zealand podcast industry.
Sponsors were not involved in any stage of the judging process, except RØDE, who have a small in-house judging team for entries in their own category.

Congratulations to all our finalists and winners. You have made your contribution to podcasting in Australia this year!
Wasn’t there supposed to be a “People’s Choice – Indie” and “Podcast of the Year – Major/Indie” as stipulated in the competition details? Some categories seem to be missing.
You’re right KK. So sorry, the last tile in the list fell off when pasted. It’s back now and congrats to Ned & Josh for their Indie People’s Choice award.
Yes, some categories ARE missing, purposely. Either they did not have an entry or the entry was not of a suitable standard to meet the judging threshold for a winner (more than a 50% score required in our marking criteria)
I gotta say, been checking out some of the finalists since you posted last week, and Songs That Changed You is really good! Well deserved win.
