Do artists get excited hearing their song on radio?

Staff Writer

The music meeting in a radio station generally involves looking over the research (if your station has it), the airplay data from your competitor-set and sister stations, and working out how many slots you might have available for new additions – and whether it’s a days slot, nights slot or whatever.

And obviously if there’s a new song by a format superstar, generally that will be an ‘insta-add’.

So whilst there’s a process involved, and it’s important (and fun), it does have a major impact on artists’ and occasionally we forget the emotional response of an artist hearing their song on the radio for the first time.

A couple of years ago we showed you this video of independent Central Coast rock band Paper Wolves hearing their song on Sea FM.

And below is a post from Sony Music Australia artist Valerie, on hearing her new single ‘I’ll Be Loving You’ on Nova 100 Melbourne on Friday last week.

In Australia, I’ll Be Loving You is getting airplay on Nova, KIIS Sydney & Melbourne, Hot Tomato Gold Coast, K-Rock Geelong and a number of other radio stations around Australia.

In New Zealand it is being played on Flava, ZM, and George FM.
