Vale Brenton Thompson

Staff Writer

Former 2WG Wagga announcer Brenton Thompson passed away peacefully on Monday at the age of 53.

During his radio career he worked at 2LF in Young during the 70s then went into a career in TV before returning to radio at 2WG.

Former 2WG GM Yvonne Braid told the Daily Advertiser:

“He always had the city of Wagga at heart. He would walk on hot coals if he thought it was to the betterment of 2WG and the city.

“In cases of emergency, flood or fire, when asked to broadcast outside working hours he would always be there."

Former colleague of more than 10 years, Scott Levi said:

“What you heard on air was what you got with Brenton. An engaging conversationalist … he loved to have a chat, that’s the secret to his success.”

Levi also said Thompson was “extremely well-dressed” for an announcer, setting the benchmark for the rest of the team to follow.
