TRN shut down Easy Mix
TRN New Zealand has announced that they will close down FM station Easy Mix, which has been owned by the company since 1996.
They will be replacing Easy Mix with their established sports brand 'Radio Sport' which presently broadcasts on the AM band. David Brice, TRN's Group General Manager Content said;
"Simply by moving to FM we believe we will attract a new market to (Radio Sport) and further strengthen its appeal with an even wider audience"
"The FM band is a crowded and competitive broadcast space already with very limited options to get Radio Sport onto FM. The company had to reassess how we used our FM resources to achieve the best outcomes for our listeners and clients"
TRN is hoping listeners to Easy Mix will move other stations in their group, Brice said;
"As an alternative to Easy Mix, we invite listeners to consider its sister stations of Classic Hits with music from the 80s to today, or Coast which features songs from the 50's to the 70's"
TRN have said their goal is for Radio Sport to be the clear number two talk network behind Newstalk ZB.
The move to place Radio Sport on FM opens up the brand to be broadcast into new markets where it previously was not able to be heard: Tauranga, Hawke's Bay and Wellington.
Easy Mix will cease broadcasting on 22 June, with Radio Sport taking its place on 23 June.
