Tim Gilbert gets Friday night program on Nine Radio

Former Editor & Content Director

Former Today show sports presenter Tim Gilbert is back in the Nine family, fronting the Friday night slot across 2GB, 3AW and 4BC.

Gilbert first started working for Nine in the 1990s after radio stints at 2GN in Goulburn and 2UE.

He held various roles at Nine including conducting the sports reports for Nine News, and appearing on The Cricket Show and The NRL Footy Show. In 2009 he joined Weekend Today, and in 2014 he replaced Ben Fordham as sports reporter on the main Today program. He finished up in 2019 as part of Today’s multiple talent shuffles, and joined Sky News as the presenter of The Business of Sport.

His new Nine Radio program, however, won’t be sport based.

Your Weekend with Tim Gilbert will run in the non AFL and NRL months, and will provide listeners with tips and ideas on making the most of their weekends.

Gilbert said he was excited to be returning to his first love, radio.

“In a very heavy news cycle, we’ll be taking you down the bright side of the road for an hour each Friday night and exploring everything that’s good in the world,” he added. “I can’t wait to work with some of my great mates and chat with the Nine Radio listeners.”

Head of content for Nine Radio, Greg Byrnes, praised his new talent.

“Whether it’s fishing, travel, spending time in the kitchen or fixing the back deck during lockdown, Tim will have something for everyone each Friday night,” he said.

“Tim knows talk, our audience knows Tim, and this new show is the perfect launchpad for his long-awaited return to radio.”

The program will run from 7pm.

Other TV stars appearing across the Nine Radio network include Joe Hildebrand, who was picked up after leaving Studio 10, and fellow 10 alumni Tim Bailey, who joined Ben Fordham’s Breakfast program as the weather presenter after being axed by 10.

Former Today presenter Fordham also appears on Channel 9’s Australian Ninja Warrior.

Afternoons presenter Deb Knight is also a former Today show host and current newsreader across Nine’s TV assets.

And 3AW’s latest recruit in the Breakfast slot, Russel Howcroft came to consumers’ attention on ABC’s Gruen.
