Southern Cross Austereo launched their annual 'Give Me 5 For Kids' on Saturday, and today have announced five celebrity ambassadors for the campaign.

Actor Rodger Corser; best known from Underbelly, Triple M's Merrick Watts, SCA's Gold FM (Gold Coast) Breakfast Announcer and former AFL legend Spida Everitt, along with musicians Mark Gable and Melinda Schneider are the official ambassadors for the initiative.

Rodger Corser said, “As a father of three, I am proud to lend my support to this years 'Give me Five for Kids' campaign. Like most parents, the health and well being of my children is my number one priority.”

Merrick said, “As a comedian it is easy for me to joke about a lot of things, but the health of my kids and all other kids is something to take seriously. I am a huge fan of ‘Give Me 5 for Kids’ and the great fundraising efforts of the campaign.

I encourage you to donate generously to 'Give Me 5 for Kids'. All monies raised goes to your local Hospital Children's Ward to directly benefit the sick kids in your community.”

Give Me 5 for Kids is rolled out in June each year, and after humble beginnings as a 'coin drive' driven by the old RG Capital Network, it now runs across the SCA network of 36 radio markets, plus 8 television markets.

The initiative last year raised $1.9m, and the network hopes to exceed that this year.

Southern Cross Austereo CEO Rhys Holleran said;

“Giving back to local communities is a priority for our business and Give Me 5 For Kids has been a key component in raising funds for almost two decades.

It’s an initiative that every Southern Cross Austereo market looks forward to and it ensures all funds raised stay in the communities we serve.  We’re proud of our ambassadors in 2013 and thank them for their support.”.
