Sacked talk host rules out political career

Former 6PR announcer Howard Sattler has ruled out a move into politics.

Days after he was fired from the station for his questioning of Julia Gillard, Sattler said he might stand against Defence Minister Stephen Smith for the federal seat of Perth.

Smith has since decided to retire from politics and is now campaign manager for the new Labor candidate for the Perth seat, former state minister Alannah MacTiernan.

A spokeswoman for Sattler told Perth Now that he had been approached by parties asking him to run, but he had decided against it.

She also said he was in no rush to find a job and was enjoying a break. Sattler is said to still be going ahead with an unfair dismissal claim against 6PR.
