Team behind Rebel FM launch news service for Queenslanders

Family-owned broadcaster Rebel Connect Group is getting into the online news biz.

Award-winning broadcaster and journalist Scott Mayman has been appointed news editor of the new “grassroots online newspaper” named My News Feed.

The online news publication will launch “in the coming months” in regional Queensland markets.

It was developed by Rebel, who own and operate the Rebel and Breeze regional radio networks across Queensland and New South Wales.

Group manager Cheryl Jowitt says the platform will provide smaller communities with access to a more localised service with free access to local news and information online and on-air.

“We are excited that Scott has decided to join the team and build his own team of news people dedicated to reporting local issues,” Jowitt said.

“This venture is based on a model where the local newspaper and radio stations work together to create a strong, more cohesive community.”

Mayman was the news director at 4BC in Brisbane and KCMO-AM in Kansas City. He has worked in newsrooms and presenting roles in both Australia and the United States.

The broadcaster and journalist said that news has been his passion for many years.

“I’ve done it all over the past 35 years and I’m looking forward to the next adventure, working with a great team of newshounds on a local news website, dedicated to the local community”.
