Rdio now free to use on app

Staff Writer

Rdio, jointly owned by dmg Radio, has announced that its personalised streaming stations are now free to use on mobile for iOS and Android users.

Rdio has made the stations free for current subscribers, and for those who have either ended their trial period or had their subscription lapse.

It means that the Rdio library (around 20 million songs) is now free to access on the Rdio mobile app.

Rdio has also announced two new features: 'Think your You FM', and playlist and album stations.

“Station plays are up over 50 percent since our launch in August,” said Drew Larner, Rdio’s chief executive officer. “We’re excited to make one of our most popular features available to everyone for free, forever.”

The streaming space is highly competitive and the announcement of iTunes soon to enter the market will make it moreso.

Each of the major FM networks is aligned with a streaming service; dmg with Rdio, SCA with Songl, and ARN with IHeartRadio.
