Nick and Sophie in song for Footy Show

Staff Writer

Breakfast duo Nick and Sophie of Hit106.9 Newcastle were featured on the NRL Footy Show last week.

The pair wrote a song about the winless streak of their beloved footy club Newcastle Knights.

The team endured nearly a year (335 days) without a competition win until last weekend when the Knights finally broke the curse.

Nick and Sophie spoke to The Footy Show’s Beau Ryan on-air yesterday to pitch the song, which was eventually picked up by the show.

Following the tune of Bonnie Tyler’s 1983 classic Total Eclipse of the Heart, the hilarious number makes reference to all the things that have happened since the Knight’s last win – Brexit, Donald Trump, celebrity breakups, and even Jarryd Hayne’s three-code switch.

When asked how he felt on the breakfast show this morning, Nick joked: “I’m going to need a bigger bank account to fit all the money.”

“We’re so excited that the Knights finally got the two points,” he added. “The only thing that could make the song better is if I could sing at all. I apologise to everyone’s ears in advance.”
