New Unit: ABC Regional & Streaming Expands
The ABC is to expand its regional streaming with ABC’s Managing Director, Mark Scott making the announcement Tuesday saying: “From Cairns in the north through to Launceston in the south, regionally produced programs and bulletins will broaden their audiences through the capacity to stream online and on mobile.”
“The roll-out is being funded through efficiencies from across the organisation and forms part of the ABC’s strategy of putting audiences at the centre.”
Come July 1, ABC Western Plains Dubbo will be streamed along with ABC stations based in Kalgoorlie, Broome, Bunbury, Cairns, Toowoomba, Karratha, Launceston, Longreach, Mt Isa, Port Pirie, Sale and Wodonga.
Newly appointed Director ABC Regional, Fiona Reynolds, said it is the division’s ambition to extend streaming to other regional locations in the future.
“Regional audiences have sought an expansion of ABC radio streaming services and we are excited to be able to expand those services and meet audience expectations,” Ms Reynolds said.
The new ABC Regional unit will see ABC staff working in 48 locations outside eight capital cities, along with metro-based Rural team members; form part of the new division along with Landline, Australia All Over and Saturday Night Country teams.
