Former Assistant Editor

Lisa Sweeney has departed her role at AFTRS, leaving for a job as a director at Service NSW.

Fyona Smith will now lead the AFTRS Radio and Podcast team, as part of her role as head of radio, which she has been in for two years.

Fyona has worked closely with the Radio and Podcast team for six years as well.

She previously worked as a presenter on SCA’s School of Rock radio show, hosted Southern Cross Television’s Australian music TV show School of Rock Oz Made and held the position of Network Music Director for Triple M Localworks.

“Fyona is a brilliant teacher,” said newly appointed director of curriculum and student registrar Nell Greenwood.

“She has extensive industry connections and is a passionate advocate for Radio across the school.

“Fyona set up the AFTRS Audio Boom channel to showcase our student work and has set up fantastic collaborations across industry, most recently with iHeart Radio.

“Fyona is working to integrate podcasting across the Screen Awards courses.”

“It’s an exciting time for radio and podcasting and content creation,” added Smith.

“I look forward to ensuring the R in AFTRS continues great success and employment outcomes with a fantastic team behind me”.

AFTRS is taking applications for 2019 courses now.
