Lawyers busy at 2UE & 2GB

Staff Writer

Both 2UE and 2GB have been busy in court during the week.

2UE have been defending a defamation charge against Steve Price (right) filed by the so-called 'NRL Cougar, Charmyne Palavi.

Price is being sued in the Sydney District Court by Palavi who has claimed that he "greatly injured'' her reputation with comments he made about her after she appeared on the ABC's Four Corners program.

The hearing date has been set down for September.

Meanwhile 2GB have attacked a defamation lawsuit filed by magistrate Pat O'Shane against Alan Jones, claiming Jones' criticisms of O'Shane were "substantially true".

Jones had commented on 27 May last year on his Breakfast program that "Pat O'Shane can deliver the most diabolical and wrong decisions in law, and they go through to the keeper".

The comments were played on 26 radio stations in four states and two territories, and repeated by Jones on 6 June.

O'Shane had sought an apology on three occasions, however 2GB declined to to do so each time. She is now claiming damages and aggravated damages.
