Iluka now ready to receive $2m of radio support

Staff Writer

Exactly a year ago, Commercial Radio Australia's 'First Break' initiative crowned Iluka their first winner.

First Break is designed for unsigned artists who haven't had anything in the Top 100.

At the time, Judge and Chief Content Officer of Southern Cross Austereo, Guy Dobson, said:

“Iluka has an amazing sound about her and under the tutelage of the great music minds of the Mushroom Group and with the support of commercial radio in Australia we are confident she'll be adding to her already growing fan base very quickly!”

Iluka has had 12 months of development support and guidance from Mushroom and from this week she will start to receive the $2 million worth of commercial radio support with her first single '12th of July'.

Since winning First Break, Iluka has played alongside Matt Corby, The Rubens and Georgia Fair and if you were at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards in October you would have seen her perform on the night.

Chairman of the Mushroom Group, Michael Gudinski said: “It’s great that commercial radio is pushing upcoming Australian artists, and we think the partnership between commercial radio and Mushroom in First Break is the perfect combination for any developing Artist that has reached a certain point but really wants help to to take it to the next level."

“For me it’s all about creating a sound that is unique but one that is also accessible and when people hear it they will hopefully say, hey this is different but I really like it,” said Iluka.

First Break entries will open next month for the 2014 competition.
