Hefter departs ARN, leads to numerous changes

Staff Writer

AdNews have reported that Brian Blacklock has been promoted to the role of National Sales Director (Direct) at ARN.

Brian replaces David Hefter (left) who apparently resigned a number of weeks ago to pursue other interests.

Hefter has been involved in radio since he was a kid, aside from a stint in TV (see below for more).

Blacklock was Sydney sales director for direct, that role has been taken on by 106.5 general sales manager Ben Gialouris.

Matthew Granger remains as national sales director for agency and Michael Graham as Sydney sales director for agency.

Linda Worthington has been promoted to commercial operations director, overseeing all strategy and integration, campaigns and activations, and trading and inventory.

The below excerpt was taken from our spotlight on David Hefter from late last year here where he talks about his background ….

"When I was about 9 years old I was very fortunate to have a very close member of my family who was, at the time, the General Manager of 3AW in Melbourne and he subsequently went onto head up Macquarie broadcasting and was the first Managing Director of SBS Radio and TV in Australia.

"He offered me the opportunity one school holiday’s to go into the radio station and see how things worked. From that day on the bug had bitten me.

"So when I left school I got my first role in radio in production at 3KZ in Melbourne. I spent a number of years on the other side of the business, in production, on-air and program director in regional radio.

"I then left the industry for a few years to work in television where I started off as an audio engineer because that was effectively my skillset at the time. Again I had the good fortune to be able to work my way through a number of roles in television to a director/producer level at Channel 9 in the Queensland market.

"Then one day I had an epiphany that I wanted to learn the business as a whole and had the realisation that there weren’t too many executives in radio who didn’t come from a sales background, so I took the big leap and went back into radio and got a job as an account manager at 4KQ in Brisbane.

"That was nearly 19 years ago and I’m still at ARN. I started at the bottom of the sales ladder and have been very fortunate to get to where I am today."
