Heavy metal station The Faction launches on iHeartRadio and exclusive app

Staff Writer

Digital radio listeners are welcoming a new niche station today, thanks to Australian music publicity group SGC Media.

24/7 live streaming radio station The Faction will premiere on iHeartRadio today, as well as launch an exclusive metal app available for iOS and Android to offer the heavy metal community a central hub to access to music blogs, social media platforms, exclusive Spotify playlists, video streaming and member offers.

The brainchild of heavy music company Collision Course, the project has been in planning for over a year, and will have music from the likes of Metallica, Rage Against the Machine and Tool on high rotation, as well as given additional exposure to local acts including Ecca Vandal, Thy Art is Murder and Northlane.

“The metal community is one of the most passionate in the world and we have so much to celebrate – not just artists and music, but also a thriving live sector, amazing blogs and media and so many people with passion,” Collision Course manager Tim Price explained.

“We wanted to put it together and create a hub for that community which brings the genre into a mobile world. Through our partnership with iHeartRadio, we can now also use The Faction Radio to reach new metal fans and welcome them into our scene.”

According to SGC Media Group Managing Director Stephen Green, the agency is taking the view that ‘niche’ doesn’t need to mean small.

“What we’re doing is creating strategies to amplify the great work that goes on across the sector whether that’s artists, media, venues or anything else and give a platform to build solid audiences,” he said.

“We are approaching this with a mainstream mindset—we want to keep true to the core of the genre, but we’re also about creating an entry point for people with a passing interest to come and join the movement.”
