Hamish & Andy on the Js?

Hamish Blake has revealed a ‘sliding doors’ moment that could very well have changed the Australian radio landscape… (and TV for that matter).

On the most recent episode of The Betoota Advocate Podcast, Blake has revealed that someone tried to convince he and Andy Lee to ditch Austereo to join triple j.

It seems they received a phone call shortly after they signed with Fox FM in 2006 and before their drive show became a runaway success. And it seems that ‘somebody’ pulled out all stops to get them to ‘shred’ the contract.

Hamish told Betoota that the caller was insistent that it was in their best interests to turn their back on commercial FM.

“This is just before we started doing Drive in Melbourne, and they were like, ‘cancel your contract.  If you go commercial you’ll never get to work at triple j.’

“We went, ‘Okay… but we’ve signed with them, I’m so sorry, but we’ve signed.’

“They were like, ‘This is the moment. This is the moment where you define your legacy. You shred that contract and you come to triple j.’”

Obviously the strong arm tactics didn’t pay off and “Hamish and Andy” would go on to rewrite the record books by becoming the highest-rating show in Australian radio history.

Whoever manages H&A do a top job. Take the big bucks off SCA then do a Podcast One deal obviously without a non compete. These guys are turing up everywhere promoting their TV show. Nova, KIIS, WS, Triple M so much for loyalty they done seem to have any at all to the network that made them famous. They’ll no doubt run up on GOLD when the pommie guy starts too.
