DMG send Bob Francis on leave

Staff Writer

Following his comments on Adelaide's biggest radio station 5AA about asylum seekers, Bob Francis has been spoken to by DMG Management.

Francis was widely criticised for his comments (see earlier story here) saying that he hopes 'asylum seekers drown' en route to Australia, and that they were not welcome here. The comments were addressed on the Sky News program 'The Contrarians' yesterday, with Mark Latham saying;

"In the city of churches, it's a disgrace. He should be run out of town and expelled — put him on the boat and sink it,"

The host of 'The Contrarians', Peter van Onselen compared the Francis comments with Kyle Sandilands;

"If Kyle Sandilands is going to get in trouble for a few inappropriate jokes and stupid comments, that kind of offensive rhetoric from Bob Francis should see him . . . conducting radio nowhere. Retire Bob, you're a disgrace"

DMG Radio's Group General Manager, Louise Higgins (pictured), commented that the company had discussed the comments directly with Francis, and that he was now on " planned leave for approximately one month".

The Weekend Australian, who have reported the story, phoned Francis to get his comments, and were told by him to "Go and get fucked".
