Dan and Maz reunited

Almost two years after being shown the door by 2DayFM and Dan Debuf has been reunited with his former breakfast show co-host Maz Compton.

Compton joins him for the first episode of a new weekly podcast series: Totally Obsessed with Dan Debuf, which he says will focus on creative people and their various obsessions.

“I realised that interesting, creative people get obsessed with things – maybe lifelong obsessions, or perhaps just something they find out about that week and can’t stop talking about.

“I ask people what that one passion is for them, and we chat about it. Bonus points if it’s obscure, or something they’ve never had the chance to talk about.”

With a number of guests already lined up to appear on the podcast, Debuf says it was a joy to spend time with Compton.

“We make a joke in the episode that it’s like getting back on a  bicycle… but the last time we rode it was the Tour de France, and like Lance Armstrong, we had all our medals stripped! We just picked up where we left off.

“Sometimes I’m baffled by how well we get along. It’s hard to find two people who are so different but have such great chemistry in this industry. I’ll be forever grateful we got at least one chance to work together.”

A lot of water has passed under the bridge since their departure from Southern Cross Austereo with Dan working on a number of other projects.

But he admits he missed the radio as a medium, with podcasting almost the next best thing.

“I’ve missed being on radio for a little too long and this felt like a fun idea.

“I’ve done a lot of things since the Dan and Maz show was last on air – comedy onstage, television with The Loop, online stuff with the Bachelor Unpacked, writing… but nothing audio!

“It’s been fun to stretch my legs in other areas I’ve neglected because I concentrated on radio for a decade, but the siren song of our beloved auditory medium called.”

Both the trailer and episode one of Totally Obsessed is available from iTunes now.

One of the best radio duos in past decade who unfortunately got screwed around. Someone should consider picking them up again.
