DAB+ Survey #1 Results are in

Staff Writer

GfK has released the year’s first DAB+ survey results, showing cumulative audience numbers for each station.

There is a unique #1 in each of the metropolitan markets from the 45 DAB+ only stations available. Melbourne has the most digital radio listeners – 507,000 according to today’s numbers, compared to 159,000 in Adelaide.

Since the first DAB+ broadcast in 2009, this is the first time that audience numbers for all DAB+ only stations have been released one week after the official metropolitan GfK radio ratings.

SYDNEY: #1 Edge Digital

MELBOURNE: #1 Double J

BRISBANE: #1 Coles Radio

ADELAIDE: #1 The 90s iHeartRadio

PERTH: #1 Smooth

The DAB+ summary report shows the cumulative audience for digital only stations, which is the total number of different (unique) people who listen to a DAB+ only radio station in that market for at least eight minutes (one quarter-hour), in a defined period.

With only 9,000 listeners in Melbourne, Macquarie’s digital only station (with far too many repetitive ads!) is a disaster.
Surely the Magic (Best Hits Of All Time) format should be re-launched on digital radio, preferably playing the hits of the 50s 60s and 70s.
There are 200,000 old Magic listeners in Melbourne searching for somewhere to turn.
