Christian O’Connell goes full #ThrowbackThursday by spinning vinyl on-air

Staff Writer

Gold104.3‘s newest import Christian O’Connell really leaned into today’s throwback Thursday by forgoing some digital tunes and spinning vinyl live on-air.

O’Connell roped his producer/sidekick Jack Post into operating the aesthetically pleasing vertical record player.

Following a couple false starts and missed cues, Jack finally positioned the needle to correctly run into the Violent Femmes classic Blister In The Sun.

Confirming that he still has admiration for modern streaming services like Spotify, Christian lamented about his love of the warm crackle of vinyl, commenting “Nothing replaces that warm, deeper sound you get from the needle on the grooves…it’s the anticipation, it’s part of the ritual.”

This morning’s audio flashback wasn’t a one-off however, Christian is encouraging his listeners to bring in their favourite vinyl for him to spin – assuming they can deal with a scratch or two courtesy of Jack.

Christian is acclimatising to his new home, revealing to Radio Today that the idea for him to jump the pond was conceived after a few drinks with Aussie radio royalty Hamish and Andy.
