BBQ Bob to host 4BH Classic Hits Breakfast

Reporter

Classic Hits 4BH is excited to announce that one of Brisbane‘s most iconic radio personalities will be joining the 4BH team from July 11.

BBQ Bob Gallagher will be the new host of the Classic Hits 4BH Breakfast, bringing an unmistakably Brisbane feel to the show.

Bob says “It’s great to be back where it all started for me.”

Gallagher’s career started at 4BH as a teenager in the early 70s when he joined the station as a control room operator.

“I absolutely love Brisbane,” he says. “With the change of 4KQ to 24/7 sport, I look forward to connecting with all the loyal Classic Hits lovers at my new home on 4BH.”

“If anything is happening across the city, I am keen to be all over it. And if I don’t know about it, I’m looking forward to having the 4BH listeners tell me about it.”

With a career now spanning over 50 years, Gallagher has enjoyed a wide range of roles, including time at Triple M Sydney, FM104 Brisbane and SeaFM Gold Coast.

In 1992, Bob joined 4KQ as Program Director, a position he held for 14 years. He then joined the 97.3 Breakfast in 2006, where he was part of the team for 15 years, only to return to 4KQ earlier this year to fill in.

BBQ Bob will also be joined on 4BH by former Triple M Brisbane Program Director Scott Menz, who will host the evening show between 7 pm and midnight every weeknight.

Menz has worked in Brisbane for many years and brings a depth of experience to the content team.

ACE Radio CEO Mark Taylor says “Since taking over the running of 4BH in January, we have been working hard to establish a strong local team, both on-air and off.”

“We have been growing the local sales team over the past couple of months, and it is exciting to now bring local on-air talent on board. We look forward to announcing further local appointments in months to come.”

Right on the money Sarah. What a great move for BBQ Bob . . . And a great move for live radio. Now waiting to see where young Brent James aka BJ turns up. Congratulations BBQ.

I doubt 4BH will regain thr audience of 4KQ. Listeners will sample other stations and possibly change habits forever.

It’s wonderful to see the presentation of Classic Hits will continue in Brisbane and that BBQ Bob will play a lead role in it. In my recent experience, it’s been remarkable to see so many young demographics rejecting today’s Autotuned crap and turning to really high quality Pop music. Kate Bush’s “Runnin’ Up That Hill” is a superb example of the genre.

Go for it, Bob!

We love the breakfast show with the songs they play. Used to listen to 4KQ but not anymore since it has changed hands.
Keep up the good work.

Once, our capital cities had the cleverly localised “More Music, More Often” format. With consolidation of national ownership and the growing number of Sport frequencies, the blur between “where’ is this station ?” and localism has become even murkier. Great to see ACE take up the Brisbane void with the demise of 4KQ. Having BBQ Bob in the ‘Breakfast’ role is a logical move (one of 2 or 3 options). The Aussie music station landscape with a LIVE solo performer may be on the rebound, at least where ‘Classic Hits’ is concerned. It makes sense in the hands of the right talent and hopefully the $ will flow to the operators.

With BBQ Bob doing the brekie show in Brisbane does this mean 4BH won’t be broadcasting from Melbourne anymore?

Bob, read a poem this morning around 6:45am (17/1/2023) and made me think all day. Would love if you could send me a copy. Love the breakfast show.
Many thanks,
