Alan Jones flirts with return to radio on 2SM

Alan Jones has made yet another appearance on radio, this time appearing on John Laws’ Morning show on 2SM.

The duo – who have previously been characterised as ‘rivals’ in the media – sparred about everything from COVID-19 lockdowns and Gladys Berejiklian, to US president Joe Biden and the radio ratings of The Kyle & Jackie O Show.

Laws asked Jones on a few occasions if he’d consider a return to radio, with Jones again not ruling it out.

“God, we could set the world on fire, you and me,” Laws said of a potential show featuring both radio veterans.

On one occasion Laws went as far as to say “Do you want a job?” and even asked if Jones would do Breakfast again.

Laws and Jones also covered the recent radio ratings, in which Kyle Sandilands and Jackie ‘O’ Henderson knocked 2GB Breakfast – now fronted by Ben Fordham – off its #1 perch.

Laws asked Jones if he thinks the FM Breakfast show can maintain its success, or if it’s just a “flash in the pan”.

Jones said Sandilands “isn’t stupid” and the show was in it for the long haul.

“Absolutely. See what I think was evidenced by your interview with Kyle – I mean, okay you joked and so on and carried on – but at the end of the day, he’s not stupid, Kyle. He’s got real instinct and he’s relatable that people out there can relate to him. Says it as it is. And he can be amusing and entertaining, but equally he can cut through too,” he said.

“I never begrudge anyone’s success and they’ve earned it. They’ve worked hard for it. They’ve been at it for a long time and they’ve hung in [there]….

“The bulk of the people in radio never win a single survey. You and I are very fortunate, we’ve won thousands of them. But there are people out there who go hard at it every day and have never won a survey.”

Last week, Jones appeared on The Kyle & Jackie O Show, and similarly didn’t deny a return to radio was on the cards.
