Grant Denyer breaks down on 2DayFM recalling his crippling back injury

The 10-year-challenge is trending at the moment, with plenty of people looking back at photos of themselves from a decade ago.

This morning on 2DayFM Breakfast, Grant Denyer did the challenge, and it made for some very raw, emotional radio.

In 2009 Grant had just had a monster truck accident and broken his back, and feared the very real possibility that he might not walk again.

“It was the worst time of my life, ” he said. “I spent the next four months lying flat on my back in hospital.”

Grant began to break down as he recalled how incredible his wife Chezzi had been in helping to care for him during that difficult time.

“The things that I said to her mate,” he said, tearing up. “She could see through that and it was a very difficult period, I expected her to run for the hills.”

The team then got Chezzi on the line to share her side of the story.

She spoke about the difficulties caring for Grant, especially helping him get off his medication.

“He honestly believed that he would never walk again,” said Chezzy.

Chezzy also revealed that calling Grant’s family to tell them about the accident was actually the first time she had EVER met them!
