Young Guns – The next Era of Radio production is here
The next Era of Radio production is here.
For many years I have been giving props and endeavouring to highlight talented people within the radio production fraternity.
In 2008 I set up a not-for-profit blog called RadioPromoTips.com, specifically to help connect and encourage more communication within the audio leadership group.
We are in an age of declining remuneration, more tasks, higher burn, and yet it’s the most exciting time ever seen within radio production.
The need to pre-record, edit, construct and mix now extends across the broadcast medium through into online video, digital radio stations, more complex sales pitches, and in some networks, more diverse client offerings including phone systems, jingle production and TVC mixing. All these tasks require experienced audio producers!
I’ve joked over the years that many executives never quite know what goes on between the padded walls of a production studio. The countless times on a client tour where the host has looked google-eyed at me for help in describing what actually happens within their production department. To this day I find it bizarre that there are sales people who still do not realise the potential of the resource they have at their disposal.
The people within Australian radio production are some of the most talented, respected, and awarded in the world.
From Matt Nikolic at the FOX, to David Konsky at 2DAY, ‘Sideshow’ Michael Andersen [Triple M], to Brendan Tacey [SCA], Matt Dower [NOVA], Nigel Haines [ARN], Ben Ryan [NOVA], Jeff Nielsen [Hot Tomato], Martin Kubitzky [ARN], Eddie Bye [NOVA], and Jeff Thomas [Killer Hertz] to name a few.
However it is their legacy that I wish to highlight today. The Young Guns. The next era.
The young up-and-coming radio production talent with ‘the right stuff’. Not just a hot audio demo, but the right attitude and passion to succeed.
Many of these people have invested in themselves … spending time moving state and city from gig to gig ensuring their growth in audio skills as well as their own personal development.
Well done to each of the talented names below. The industry is indeed in safe hands with this amazing talent and pedigree currently rising through the ranks.
If you know some of these guys, then please give some recognition next time you see them in the staff kitchen making their medium sized skinny mocha chai latte with a slice of lemon. Or better still, leave them a message below. I have no doubt they’ll be chuffed to hear from you.
